OSHA 8-hour Competent Person Class
March 1, 2017 by ascedayton
Keith Stewart from Montgomery County Environmental Services is putting together an OSHA 8-hour Competent Person Class which is taught by Patricia Falls of Firstline Safety Management, Inc. The class focuses on the OSHA Excavation Standard that is found in 29 CFR 1926, Subpart P. The day is split into five sections and they are 1) Definitions and Soil Classification, 2) General Requirement, 3) Sloping, 4) Timber and Aluminum Hydraulic Shoring, and 5) Trench Boxes. At the end of the instruction, the attendees will be certified as an OSHA Competent Person and will receive a card stating such. Also, if the attendees need OEPA contact hours, this course has been preapproved for them.
The full day of instruction includes all materials, drinks and a catered lunch and the price is $85/person.
They are looking at offering three or four classes the week of April 17th which allows for agencies and companies to be able to send different people different days and still have coverage at their organizations. They are looking for about 40-50 more people for the training, so they are opening it up to contractors, other agencies, etc.
